Creating a Sacred Space
An Interfaith Educational Handout
What Is a Sacred Space?
A sacred space is any place intentionally set aside for reflection, grounding, healing, or meaning-making. It may be religious, spiritual, cultural, or personal—or it may involve no religious belief at all. What makes a space sacred is the intention of the person using it.
Sacred spaces can support:
Prayer, meditation, or contemplation
Emotional or spiritual grounding
Grief, healing, or transition
Reflection, rest, or creativity
A sacred space may be permanent or temporary, large or small.
