Meditation


There are many types of meditation. As a neurodivergent person, I like to combine mindfulness meditation and body scans that direct the focus to the here and now with movement or guided visualization. Movement helps to ground out the busy brain, while the mental movie of visualization gives my brain something to focus on rather than bouncing from topic to topic. A short meditation is often included in movement classes as well.

Breath Pranayama

The movement of spirit is called Pranayama in the yogic tradition and involves breathing practices. There are many types of pranayama each with a different designed purpose. Some are fast. Some are slow. Some cool you down, while others warm you up. As a neurodivergent person, I like to combine breath practices with movement or visualization to focus the mind. Breath is often a component in movement classes to provide additional postural support on the physical plane, to focus the mind on the mental plane and massage the soul in the spiritual plane.
